Memoirists Nancy McCabe and Suzanne Ohlmann join together for a reading and conversation about writing, the writing life, and life. Both women write from the heart and bring a wealth of experience to the page and to their readings.

Larksong's Visiting Writer's Series welcomes James Crews, poet and editor of the anthology "Path to Kindness: Poems of Connection and Joy." Joined by contributors Grace Bauer, Twyla Hansen, and Marjorie Saiser for a hybrid event live at Larksong Writers Place in Lincoln NE and on Zoom from Vermont. 

Joy Castro is the award-winning author of the novel Flight Risk, the post-Katrina New Orleans literary thrillers Hell or High Water and Nearer Home, and the story collection How Winter Began, as well as the memoir The Truth Book and the essay collection Island of Bones, which received the International Latino Book Award. She is also editor of the anthology Family Trouble and served as the guest judge of CRAFT‘s first Creative Nonfiction Award. Her work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Senses of Cinema, Salon, Ploughshares, Gulf Coast, Brevity, Afro-Hispanic Review, and elsewhere. A former Writer-in-Residence at Vanderbilt University, she is currently the Willa Cather Professor of English and Ethnic Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

National Poetry Month is coming! You know what you need? A different poet in your in-box every day!

We've got slam poets and cowboy poets, free-verse and formal poets, poets who will make you laugh and poets who just might make you cry (in a good way, of course), national, widely published poets and just-getting-started poets. You'll meet new people and see old friends.

Each poet has recorded a five to ten minute reading of their best work. And you can watch them in your own sweet time. The links to the readings will stay live all month so you can binge watch at the end of the month or savor a reading everyday. And you can re-watch as many times as you want. 

Dr. KATE GALE is co-founder and Managing Editor of Red Hen Press, Editor of the Los Angeles Review.  She teaches in the Low Residency MFA program at the University of Nebraska in Poetry, Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction.

She is the author of the forthcoming The Loneliest Girl from the University of New Mexico Press and of seven books of poetry including The Goldilocks Zone from the University of New Mexico Press in 2014, and Echo Light from Red Mountain in 2014 and six librettos including Rio de Sangre, a libretto for an opera with composer Don Davis, which had its world premiere October 2010 at the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee.  

She speaks on independent publishing around the US at schools like USC and Columbia and she speaks at Oxford University.  Her opera in process is https://www.thewebopera.com/ and an opera on Che Guevara is in process with Cuban composer Armando Bayolo.

Ladette Randolph is the author of five books, most recently the novel PRIVATE WAY (forthcoming in March 2022). She is the recipient of a Rona Jaffe Award, a Pushcart Prize, a citation from Best American Voices, and a Virginia Faulkner Award. Her novel A SANDHILLS BALLAD was twice a finalist for Nebraska's One Story One State program and was an Editor's Choice book at the New York Times Book Review. She is the editor-in-chief of the literary journal PLOUGHSHARES.

Randolph is co-owner of the manuscript editing business Randolph Lundine.

He is a finalist of Brunel International African Poetry Prize and a recipient of fellowships and Grants from Nebraska Arts Council, Pen America, Obsidian Foundation, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he is a Ph.D. student and serves as an Assistant Poetry Editor for Prairie Schooner."

This class will give you a 360-degree view of traditional publishing: tips on how to submit your work, position yourself, get published, what to do now to prepare for that fateful day, and what you can expect after you sign the contract. This class will be lecture-based, with plenty of time for Q and A. You’ll leave this class with a good sense of the range of different publishers, how to break in, and how to make the most of your career as an author. This class applies to all genres.

Let’s kick off the Holiday Season with some fast-paced writing and short but powerful reading sessions! The format is simple. We alternate five-minute readings with 15-minute mini writing workshops that start with a craft talk and end with a writing prompt. Five readings, four workshops, so you’ll not only leave the event inspired but you’ll have some new writing too!
