Book Launch Party: "Wheel Man" by Marcia Calhoun Forecki
Book Launch Celebration for Marcia Calhoun Forecki Author of Wheel Man Date: Saturday, June 27th Time: 3-5pm Location: 1600 N. Cotner Blvd.
The day after his fifteenth birthday in 1955, Gordy McCann is shot while hunting with his father and Uncle Phil. Both men shoot at an attacking coyote. One shot kills the coyote, the other hits Gordy, leaving him paralyzed below the waist. Gordy faces a new world of physical limitation and emotional upheaval. As he learns the "choreography" of life in a wheelchair, his father descends into guilt, alcohol, and unemployment. Gordy's resilience is tested with friends, school, and first love, all while the unanswerable question lingers: whose bullet hit him?
Book Launch Party: "Flour Water Salt & Time" by Brad Anderson
Book Launch Celebration for Brad Anderson Author of Flour Water Salt & Time Date: Wednesday, July 15th Time: 6-8pm Location: 1600 N. Cotner Blvd.
Join us for poetry, conversation, snacks and refreshments. Everyone is welcome.
Flour Water Salt & Time is a Whitman’s Sampler of Brad’s poetry. From grief folded dark chocolates, to moon lit vanilla cremes, to love filled cherry cordials, to caramel nut clusters of amphibian dreams, he gives us a taste of his life on the great plains. An urban dweller in a prairie state he takes us from the Loess hills and Ashfall, to his front porch and his neighborhood’s community garden. He touches on his late wife, his family, flowers, frogs, the state he lives in, and the meditative calm of making sourdough.
