The day after his fifteenth birthday in 1955, Gordy McCann is shot while hunting with his father and Uncle Phil. Both men shoot at an attacking coyote. One shot kills the coyote, the other hits Gordy, leaving him paralyzed below the waist. Gordy faces a new world of physical limitation and emotional upheaval. As he learns the "choreography" of life in a wheelchair, his father descends into guilt, alcohol, and unemployment. Gordy's resilience is tested with friends, school, and first love, all while the unanswerable question lingers: whose bullet hit him?

I have been writing since I was a child. Imaginary friends were always my preference. My first book was a memoir of discovering my son’s deafness, published by Gallaudet University Press. I included the humor (at my own expense) along with the sad and terrifying. Blood of the White Bear, a medical thriller, co-authored with Gerald Schnitzer was a 2014 Willa Award Finalist. I have also written numerous short stories. Find links to stories at www.mcforecki.com.
