William Trowbridge will read from his latest poetry collection Call Me Fool. He will be joined by a number of local poets who have worked with William over the years. Like many of Bill's readings, this is sure to be a lively literary event. Come prepared to laugh, and maybe even cry a little.
Call Me Fool, William Trowbridge’s ninth poetry collection, Call Me Fool, came out from Red Hen Press in September. Over 550 of his poems have appeared in numerous literary magazines and in more than 50 anthologies and textbooks. He is a faculty mentor in the University of Nebraska-Omaha Low-residency MFA in Writing Program and was Poet Laureate of Missouri from 2012 to 2016. Cat Dixon is the author of Eva and Too Heavy to Carry (Stephen F. Austin University Press), and the chapbooks The Book of Levinson and Our End Has Brought the Spring (Finishing Line Press), and Table for Two (Poet's Haven). Her newest poetry collection, What Happens in Nebraska, was released from Stephen F. Austin Press this fall. Cat is a poetry editor with The Good Life Review and an adjunct instructor at the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
Heidi Hermanson is a first-generation Nebraskan. Upon finding herself with an abundance of time due to covid-19, she is documenting and photographing nearby rivers and cemeteries. A recipient of both the Nebraska Book Award and the Arts Council Fellowship. she organized the first Poets' Chautauqua at the State Fair, aspires to found a library of towns that no longer exist, and learn dialects of the 17-year cicada. Her books are Waking to the Dream (Stephen Austin University Press, 2018) and Cocktails with God (forthcoming from Finishing Line Press). She received her MFA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2008.
Jim Peterson has published seven full-length poetry collections, most recently The Horse Who Bears Me Away in 2020 and Speech Minus Applause in 2019. His novel, Paper Crown, was published in 2005, and his collection of short stories, The Sadness of Whirlwinds, was published in November 2021. He has won The Benjamin Saltman Award for poetry from Red Hen Press, a poetry fellowship from the Virginia Arts Commission, and an Academy of American Poets award. His plays have been produced in regional and college theaters. He retired as Coordinator of Creative Writing at Randolph College in 2013 and remains on the faculty of the University of Nebraska-Omaha Low-Residency MFA Program in Creative Writing. He lives with his charismatic, three-legged Corgi, Mama Kilya, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Teri Youmans is a fourth generation Floridian. She received her BFA in poetry at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and her MFA at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her most recent poetry collection, Becoming Lyla Dore, was published by Red Hen Press. Her first collection, Dirt Eaters, was chosen for the University of Central Florida’s contemporary poetry series and was published by the University Press of Florida.
Her poetry, fiction and non-fiction/memoir have appeared in The Rumpus, Prairie Schooner, Green Mountains Review, Flock, Indiana Review, South Dakota Review, Connecticut Review, Sugar House Review, Fifteen Views of Jacksonville and Homegrown in Florida: An Anthology of Florida Childhoods, among other journals and anthologies. She has written and performed live on stage for the "Prairie Home Companion of Florida" (and also a podcast), Swamp Radio and is the recipient of a Nebraska Arts Fellowship and has been awarded residencies at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Hambidge Center. She has taught in Creighton University's MFA Program, at the University of North Florida, and in the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s low-res MFA program.
