You have a story to tell.
Or, perhaps more likely, you have many stories to tell. One persistent dilemma for writers of creative nonfiction is choosing.
This course is about the process of rediscovering—and reimagining—the stories that matter most to you. These are the ones you should write. These are the ones the world needs to hear. Through mini-lessons on craft and a series of prompts designed to reveal new possibilities within the personal narrative form, class members will generate ideas, share and discuss snippets of their in-class writing, and reflect upon what it is they want their writing to mean. Together we will reinforce and encourage each other.
Steve Edwards is the author of the memoir Breaking into the Backcountry, the story of his seven months as the caretaker of a remote Oregon homestead. His nonfiction has appeared in The Sun, Orion Magazine, Literary Hub, Longreads, and is forthcoming from The Yale Review. An Associate Professor of English Studies at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts, he lives outside Boston with his wife and son.
