This Comedy Writing Bootcamp will take you through everything you need to know to write and perform your first stand-up comedy set! If you’ve ever thought about writing comedy–and even if you haven’t!--this is the class for you. We’ll start with some background on the genre, learn some of the fundamental skills of comedy writing, draft our own jokes, and workshop them with the group. Following the final class, participants will have the option of performing their material in a real comedy show at Larksong!

You do not need to consider yourself a “funny” person to benefit from this bootcamp, all you need is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. No matter what kind of writing you do, you’ll find value in learning how to engage with people by sharing your work live in front of a receptive audience! Come find fun and community in this exciting new bootcamp from Larksong Writer’s Place!

Serenity Dougherty has been writing and performing stand-up comedy for 14 years. She is currently a Rhetoric and Composition PhD student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where her teaching and research focus on stand-up comedy.

Larksong Bootcamps are limited-enrollment workshops on various topics open to a maximum of 8 writers who are committed to improving their own writing and are willing to read and respond to the work of the other writers in the workshop.
